The key to treating retinopathy is managing the underlying causes of this condition. Intraocular steroid injection is a treatment for diabetic macular enema. Fluorescein angiography, where a dye is injected into the patient and the back of the eyes are viewed and photographed, helps to locate leaky vessels. People who keep their blood sugar levels closer to normal are less likely to have retinopathy or to have milder forms.
